Isaac Cates is advocating for honoring the birthday of the master with a panel swiped from the master. This isn’t from a panel. But it is KIRBY. At least one facet lodged in my brain from before I knew who was responsible. I don’t know that copying him has helped either of us*, but happy birthday anyway & thanks for all the well-crafted weirdness.
* One thing I did notice after all this close observation is that he drew really strange squared-off digits on hands. And each of the joints in the fingers are articulated to a disconcerting degree. And it’s not something that I ever noticed until slowing down to really pore over all the little details. It’s funny how things that would rankle in real life can read just fine in the context of a drawing.
I have a couple of watercolors in an upcoming show at Mission: Comics & Art. The show is called TALES – An Indy-Fantasy Art Show, and there’s an opening reception Friday at 7 pm. A lot of my favorite comics-makers have contributed something fantastical.
The first two are in the show. The rest are the artifacts of my messing around.
